Brave New Faves

Pirate Radio Bot v0.3.0

No Knife - Feathers and Furs // https://youtu.be/m44EYuVAIQs // Length - 7:46 //. This song is also a departure from other No Knife songs, which are more in line with the late 90s San Diego post-hardcore scene. It may not be as layered and overproduced as others, but I think it fits the theme. One day I will make my Lain AMV using this.

Massive Attack - What Your Soul Sings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLkLyjIheo0 A chill, uplifting song from the masters of triphop beats. Thick, soaring notes at a adagio pace.

Nadja - Only Shallow (My Bloody Valentine cover) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k60v4V6Rsus (6:35) Nadja is my go-to "wall-of-sound" band. This is the opening track from their most accessible album.

The 8-Bit Big Band - Tetris Theme A (From "Tetris") // a big band jazz cover of a classics. Do you like big horns? Then you will not be let down. This jazz orchestra ranges from 30-65 members and always brings a big sound https://the8bitbigband.bandcamp.com/track/tetris-theme-a-from-tetris

Phantogram - Fall In Love - https://youtu.be/RsQjC5zVnt8 - The dichotomy of the calm lyrics leading into the powerfully layered chorus is a stand-out for me.

BAYNK, feat. GLADES - Off Limits // Not absolutely as densely produced as is possible for a song, but thick with brass instruments/synth. This is a short song with the kind of attitude (that I like) of Phantogram. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvScxGepycw

Ride - Leave Them All Behind - https://youtu.be/gIsnb1TKYjE - I'm not sure how many of the boxes this ticks but this is the Ride tune that stays with me. (see it's a contrast between the name of the song and ...well, never mind.)

Artic Monkeys, Do I Wanna Know? Thick just make me think of the bass in this song and how the song builds until the last roiling mass of sound at the end. It has this groove that I just lose myself in every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqrUQrAcfo4

SilvaGunner - "Rob Zombie — Dragula (Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare Mix)" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ava2ydvqR0o - The namesake is of a real remix that makes most of the base of this... experience. Less wall of sound and more of a football tackle of a multi-mashup and slight shitpost.

Victor Wooten's Classical Thump. One man, one bass, one track. Victor is ridiculous virtuoso and the amount of notes he can place in a second is THICC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUkl-oZljOo

The Mamas & The Papas - “Dancing Bear” - https://youtu.be/HXvyyWBQjck - some classic 70s wall of sound. Like a series dreamscapes told through classic Mamas and Papas harmonies. Warning for use of the g slur.

Morning Glory - I Am Machine Gun | More orchestration than you'd expect from a punk band. It reminds me of a line from Le Guin's The Dispossessed, "the mindless yell of weaponry, the meaningless word" | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGk32Ot-AoY

Darren Korb - "Gateless" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7on5q5Dcl8 One of the most audibly layered songs in my library, it's one of the lesser known songs from Transistor. No lyrics, it has the feeling to me of "You don't own me"

CHVRCHES - Good Girls - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du4kNAyjVCg - Third single off their forthcoming horror-flick-inspired album, Screen Violence, I feel like this is both a good throwback to some of their earlier sound and evidence of how much they played around with filters and just layering more stuff in than usual. The whole album was recorded and constructed remotely during 2020 and early 2021, so they had time to play around.

Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around the Block https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w7EChDSaac I love the complex guitar lines and vocal harmony - it's one of those songs where I can listen to it on repeat and pick out different strands of the tapestry each time.

The Soil & The Sun - Human/Machine [6:59]. The people have decided on another escalating adventure by The Soil & The Sun! While not a thick as the first song of theirs I've suggested, This will hopefully be thick enough for the theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg9Vd-TDxoo

Space Raiders - Glam Raid https://youtu.be/Kl23jQJjuYQ It's from 1999 or 2000, and I found something to this beat that's probably a lo-fi sound (I'm not good with genres outside of hard rock, and even then it's a bit fuzzy, heh). In any case, there's a really nice build to this party-feeling beat, but it's surprisingly good to chill on, if you listen with the volume a bit lower. They're also the guys that did the song "Song for Dot," better remembered as the song in the first level in SSX.

Bear//Face - $o0o Wavey – 2:20 – I remember stumbling onto this song many years ago soon after I finished high school. Little did I know this song and album would be the beginning of a slow descent into enjoying music as a hobby rather than “whatever’s on the radio when I’m driving”. Almost a decade later and I’m now that friend who won’t stop recommending music regardless of social occasion. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBiJQAsVgo4

Artist: Ray Lynch Song: Celestial Soda Pop Link: https://youtu.be/9YtOWeAKTlo Reason: While we’re in the new age genre, this song defs deserves a place in the conversation. Yes, it might be a little cheesy but its use of synths and layering, especially for the time, is pretty groundbreaking.

Autolux - Great Days for the Passenger Element https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNF0Elgm8lQ Future Perfect might be my favorite album of the 21st century, and this song contains possibly the most lush moment from it, contrasting the shoegaze/noise of the rest of the album
